제가 모임지기를 하고 있는 클럽 중 The Korean Language and Culture Club - Los Angeles라는 클럽이 있습니다. The KoreanLA로 통하고 있는 클럽인데요. "한국 문화와 언어를 사랑하는 사람들의 모임"
이라고 설명할 수 있는 이 클럽은 이름 그대로 한국어와 문화를 배우기 위해 모인 외국인들의 모임입니다.뭐 당연히 2세들과 한국어
원어민들도 있는데요. 모임 자체는 비한국인을 위한 모임이고, 그래서 비한국인이 훨씬 많습니다. 2009년 5월 1일 현재
회원이 460명이 넘습니다
2009년 1월에 4주 한국어 강습/스터디 그룹에 귀한 분의 방문을 받았습니다. 당시 수업 직전이라서 오신 줄도 모르고, 수업이 끝난 후에야 오셨었다는 말씀을 들었었는데요. 귀하신 책도 주고 가셔서 저는 그만 star-struck했습니다.
Household name이신 서울 대학교 이상억 교수님께서 방문을 해 주셨었어요. 그리고 저서 Korean Language and Culture를 남겨주고 가셨습니다. 수업 후 저녁식사를 하면서 한번 쭈욱 ㅤㅎㅡㄾ어봤는데요. 한국어를 배우는 외국인 뿐 이나라 한국분들에게도 너무 좋은 책이더군요.
저희 클럽에서 앞으로 계속 참조할 책으로 삼았습니다. 또한 원하시는 분을 위해 공동구매도 시도합니다. 미국에는 아직 판매가 되지 않고 있는 것으로 알고 있구요. 그래서 한국에서 구매하려고 합니다.

Early this year in 2009 at the Korean classes we host in Koreatown (Los Angeles, California), we had an honour of having one of the highly-recognized linguists visiting us. The guest was Professor Sang-Oak LEE, a renowned Korean linguist and Director of Korean Language Research Institute at Seoul National University (SNU: the top university in Korea). He's a household name to linguists; I was star-struck!
He left a book that he wrote: "Korean Language and Culture." For obviously reason, I got excited. What a great book for my students and the KoreanLA club! At the after-class dinner meeting, I skimmed through the book, and I got jitters from excitement. This is the book that we NEEDED!
I plan to utilize the book for our future classes and workshop to learn and talk about Korean language and culture. For now, I want to highly recommend that you either borrow or purchase this book. The book is for all levels of Korean speakers, and for everyone who are interested in Korean people and Korean culture. It's a great book for both natives Koreans and non-Koreans.
WHY THIS BOOK:
1. The book is written in both English and Korean
2. The book covers most of aspects of Korean language and culture: language, history, nature, economy, society, art, music, literature, traditional culture, philosophy and honorifics.
3. It's easy to follow.
